Comic books offer a narrator the space to tell intricate stories in a linear format. Visually compelling and rhythmic frame-by-frame grids afford the narrator authority to tell a story through their perspective. This comic book, was my interpretation of the1943 American short experimental film,
Meshes in the Afternoon, directed by and starring wife-and-husband team Maya Deren and Alexandr Hackenschmied. The story is shown through a circular narrative, repeating several motifs through creative editing, jumping from real to surreal. This graphic novel is a posterized translation of the film.
I started by converted the black and white film scenes into ilustration.
Then I laid the clips into a storyboard layout. It was important to show timing and sequence of events.
